New Orleans is not the only city that celebrates Mardi Gras.

In Southern Italy, people dress up in costumes and put on an ancient (old) play during Mardi Gras.

In Rio de Janeiro, Brazil their Carnival is similar to our Mardi Gras. They have great music, tons of delicious food, and parades. The difference is the Samba dancing the people do in the streets.

In Binche, Belgium people dress in colorful clown costumes (the clowns are called "gilles"). The clowns wera bunches of ostrich feathers on their heads and dance in the streets. They carry baskets of oranges which they throw to the crowds.

A few other places that hold celebrations similar to Mardi Gras are...
  • Mazatlan, Mexico
  • Many cities in Europe, Latin America, & The Caribbean
